Gabriel, Callum and I have started work on the pre-production of our 3D Final Major Project almost a week after finishing up with our first year of level 3 games development, We considered that building a fully fleshed out 3D game would take a lot of work and especially time so we wanted to start as soon as possible. Our intention is to also get Mack Foley involved with the project so that the four of us can lay out the foundation plans for the game with all our ideas influencing each other.
Before diving straight into making assets, environments and code we knew we needed to create a whole heap of planning documentation that well outline the game and its elements as well as keep the tutors happy. We started of with some very early mood board creations that were focused around the games art style, these mood boards included:
Realistic Sci-Fi style Mood Board

Cute Sci-Fi Style Mood Board

As well as making mood boards of art styles that we liked we also conversed back and forth about the pros & cons of each style and what kind of game fits well with these styles. We specifically discussed the possible difficulty that could be involved in doing a cute art style that involved hand-painted textures because only Gabriel was experienced enough with creating at to be able to make believable textures. We decided to have our hand at modelling and or texturing a gun in the discussed style which helped us to better understand what we wanted out of game assets and the type of techniques that we could use to help us make stylized assets.
Gabriel's asset was his own idea with inspiration from our multiple moodboards, he wanted to create a Sci-Fi style Heavy machine gun and did a great job creating very high quality models.

For my asset I wanted to test my modelling abilities by making a high poly hard surface model of a Sci-Fi revolver.

Callum's asset focused more closely on the Sci-Fi style and the features that are involved in the Sci-Fi art style, It is a laser rifle with a battery pack for ammo and a holo chamber to hold and focus the weapons energy.

After experimenting with models and texturing we decided to think about other styles and types of games, we decided to develop more planning documentation but first we made a OneDrive that we could all access to make file sharing easier and to make everything more organized.

Currently we are still deciding on features and styles of the game as well as planning features, assets and time management and we hope to be able to have a good knowledge of what we wnat to create as our Final Major Project.
